Mt Kilimanjaro Lemosho Route


The Lemosho Route is another popular trekking route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, known for its scenic beauty and relatively low traffic. It is typically a longer route, allowing for better acclimatization. Here's a sample itinerary for an eight-day Lemosho Route climb:
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Transfer to your hotel in Moshi for an orientation and briefing by your trekking company.
Rest and prepare for the climb.
Day 2: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Drive to the Lemosho Gate (2,385 meters / 7,825 feet).
Begin the trek through the rainforest, reaching the Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,820 meters / 9,252 feet).
Trekking time: approximately 3-4 hours.
Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp
Ascend through the rainforest and into the heath zone.
Arrive at the Shira 1 Camp (3,505 meters / 11,500 feet).
Trekking time: approximately 5-6 hours.
Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Trek across the Shira Plateau, gaining altitude gradually.
Camp at the Shira 2 Camp (3,850 meters / 12,631 feet).

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
Hike to the Lava Tower (4,630 meters / 15,190 feet) for acclimatization.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Rest and prepare for the summit night.

Day 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Summit attempt begins in the early hours, reaching Stella Point and then Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters / 19,341 feet) at sunrise.
Descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest and then continue to Mweka Camp (3,100 meters / 10,171 feet).
Trekking time: approximately 11-15 hours.
Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate (1,640 meters / 5,380 feet).
Receive your summit certificates and transfer back to Moshi.
Trekking time: approximately 3-4 hours.
