Mt Kilimanjaro Rongai Route


The Rongai Route is another trekking route to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, known for its scenic views and lower traffic compared to some other routes. Here's a sample itinerary for a seven-day Rongai Route climb:
Day 1: Arrival in Moshi
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport.
Transfer to your hotel in Moshi for an orientation and briefing by your trekking company.
Rest and prepare for the climb.
Day 2: Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
Drive to the Rongai Gate (1,950 meters / 6,398 feet).
Begin the trek through the pine forest, reaching Simba Camp (2,650 meters / 8,694 feet).
Trekking time: approximately 3-4 hours.
Day 3: Simba Camp to Kikelewa Camp
Ascend through the moorland zone, passing the Second Cave.
Camp at Kikelewa Camp (3,600 meters / 11,811 feet).
Trekking time: approximately 6-8 hours.
Day 4: Kikelewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Hut
Trek through the alpine desert, gaining elevation gradually.
Camp at Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,330 meters / 14,206 feet).
Trekking time: approximately 4-6 hours.
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Hut (Acclimatization Day)
Spend a day for acclimatization at Mawenzi Tarn Hut.
Optionally, take a day hike to explore the area.
Rest and acclimatize to the increasing altitude.
Day 6: Mawenzi Tarn Hut to Kibo Hut
Trek across the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo, with stunning views.
Camp at Kibo Hut (4,703 meters / 15,430 feet).
Trekking time: approximately 5-7 hours.
Day 7: Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut
Begin the summit attempt in the early hours, reaching Gillman's Point and then Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters / 19,341 feet) at sunrise.
Descend to Kibo Hut for a short rest and then continue to the Horombo Hut (3,720 meters / 12,205 feet).
Trekking time: approximately 11-15 hours.
Day 8: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
Descend through the moorland and rainforest zones.
Arrive at the Marangu Gate, where you receive your summit certificates.
Transfer back to Moshi for a celebratory dinner.
Trekking time: approximately 5-7 hours.
